Research Technician

Martindale & Loesgen Labs

A RESEARCH TECHNICIAN POSITION in protein chemistry and invertebrate biology is available in the laboratories of Profs. Mark Martindale and Sandra Loesgen at the University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, located in St. Augustine Florida.

The technician will be part of the NSF funded, multidisciplinary project “Functional genomic dissection of biomineralization at multiple scales using a new marine modelat the Whitney Lab.

The goal is to use the starlet sea anemone Nematostella as ‘living test tubes’ to experimentally explore marine biomineralization processes via manipulating gene expression. Specific focus is on the expression and characterization of proteins involved on biomineralization.

Responsibilities will include: Nematostella (sea anemone) animal husbandry, genetic manipulation of eggs, microscopy, protein expression in E. coli and Nematostella, protein analysis via SDS pages, proteomics mass spectrometry, etc.

Detailed training in all processes and procedures will be provided. A BS or MS in chemistry or biology or related disciplines with some laboratory experience is required. Additional experience in protein chemistry or invertebrate or biology is a plus.

The position is temporary with funds available for 12 months, and compensation starting at $17/hr ($32,640 annually). Full time (40h week) employment is preferred, but part time may be an option. Postdoctoral Research Associate Positions

Seaver Laboratory

The Seaver Lab seeks to hire a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to work on experimental analysis of regeneration and the role of stem cells in the annelid Capitella teleta. The successful applicant will be expected to work independently and possess a strong work ethic. Candidate should have a PhD in Cell, Developmental, or Molecular Biology. Proven experience in either functional genomics, experimental embryology or marine invertebrate development is strongly preferred. The researcher will benefit from a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment and this position provides an opportunity to initiate an independent research program. The lab is located at the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience, a research institute of the University of Florida with strengths in evolution and development, regeneration biology and comparative and functional genomics. Salary is dependent upon experience and based on the NIH postdoctoral scale.

Moroz Laboratory - Nitric Oxide and Other Neurotransmitters in Lower Invertebrates

Leonid Moroz invites applications for postdoctoral positions to investigate behavioral, cellular and molecular aspects of nitric oxide-dependent signaling in simpler nervous systems using marine invertebrates as experimental models; (ii) to study the distribution and roles neurotransmitters in lower invertebrates as well as in homologous neuronal networks associated with feeding. A multidisciplinary approach will be used to perform single cell analysis of various neurotransmitters and related metabolites using capillary electrophoresis. Previous experience in molecular biology, cell culture, electrophysiology or capillary electrophoresis and related microseparation techniques is desirable but not a requirement.
